特里·法雷尔，1938年出生于英国曼彻斯特，在纽卡斯尔长大。1961年在纽卡斯尔大学取得建筑学学士学位。1962-1964年获得资助，赴美国宾夕法尼亚大学深造。在那里，师从著名的路易斯·卡恩等建筑学家，获得建筑学和城市规划硕士学位。30年后的今天，在本书的引言中，他仍称当年
